Who created Community Shares USA?

Community Shares USA was created by locally based social justice workplace fundraising federations in order to provide employees of national corporations the means to support locally-based service and social justice organizations. Each member federation represents numerous local and regional charities. These federations were created by their member charities for the purpose of raising awareness and financial support through workplace fundraising campaigns.

What is the mission of Community Shares USA?

Community Shares USA creates and maintains workplace payroll deduction fundraising campaigns for corporations that want to offer social justice, women's and environmental oriented charities as giving options to their employees. Community Shares USA partners with corporations that operate in more than one state.

Community Shares USA makes it simple and inexpensive for corporations to offer their employees a uniform slate of local social justice charities:

• Community Shares USA provides a list of local options for all communities where a corporation has a substantial employee presence.
• Community Shares USA certifies that each charity on the list meets minimum charitable standards.
• Community Shares USA simplifies corporate interaction with participating charities by providing a "Lead Federation" as the point of contact between the corporation and the Community Shares USA members. The lead federation also serves as the fiscal agent for Community Shares USA members, receiving the employees' contributions and processing them through to the designated federations and charities.
